As you'd expect from a company with
glowing eco-credentials, Chamois has a
strict environmental policy which underpins
everything we do.

We re-use and recycle materials wherever possible. We also keep an eye out for any potential environmental impacts on our business, minimising our carbon footprint and monitoring our performance.

As well as manufacturing goods from recycled materials, we're also very careful to make best use of any waste that our business comes into contact with. With Chamois, landfill is the last resort; we do everything we can to recycle materials.

For example, since 2002 we've been using a Biomass waste recycling plant. This converts waste materials into heat currently, and power in the future for the Chamois factory and offices - releasing steam, rather than pollutant chemicals, into the atmosphere.

In June 2007, we took this a step further - purchasing
a new machine which can crush additional scrap kitchens
and furniture removed from people's homes, and convert
the material into briquettes. Under this system, old furnishings
which would otherwise go to landfill are converted into an
energy source which can be used by any company with a
wood firing boiler.  

Our managing director, Andy Jones-Dutt, met with
environment minister Ian Pearson in February 2007
and presented the idea. Since then, we've been working
hard to establish a core opportunity group, which could work
along the lines of a 'trading credits' approach, so that other
businesses can also avoid using fossil fuels wherever possible.
